Define, Ideate This week we set out to showcase the 3 concepts we created based on the information we got in last weeks meeting. We got notes and feedback on all 3 concepts: Concept 1 - Narrative /Storytelling
What if the audience could cognitively affect the experience or not realize they are making decisions
How to find voice for the AI (Black shadow example), can get boring with the same mechanical voice, how to keep the AI with proper voice?
Considering seating, how to create a story when the audience is not sitting down?
Idea is doable, equipment is there, budget wise too.
Define how to give the audience a sense of agency, would be interesting to not be so cerebral, audience is not aware of affecting the story, physical responses affect the story, honest feedback of collective response (research into that!)
Find a story that suits this concept
Concept 2 - Sandbox "Inside the AI"
We don't know if we own the space during that period, might not be convenient, but if it is props can be easily created
Technical input – software?
Creating deepfakes might be hard, no departments that can work on that for now
No feeling of exploring together as a group, better to have more control on the audience
More of an installation than a performance.
Bit more collective experience
We want a sense of community, driving the narrative as a group, either by movement or voice, affecting the story.
Unique feeling of “exhibitions” in a theatre
Think about duration, how to provide collective experience within this idea
Can be manipulative, think more about the idea “inside the AI” maybe push it even further
Concept 3 - AI generated world and story
“What would a world like if…?”
Cool to look at alternative speculative futures
The audience participates more, AI story around the campfire, AI serves as a storyteller.
The nature theatre of Oklahoma, actors are always on stage, never supposed to memories text, what if human actors are actors that speak text, generated by AI
Use AI as mediator, actors would be the machines/brain, roles are switched.
Technologies is not there for the AI hologram, think further, use actors’ body too
From these notes and feedback we didn't get a big sense of what direction to go in yet, other then concept 2 not fitting the theatre space in terms of what audiences would expect when coming here and the way the space usually would get used. We combed the notes and figured out that the favorable ideas and decisions were.
Make sure that there is a sense of community/ driving the narrative as a group
The concept should still give the feeling of a play
It should not be a didactic experience/exhibition
Look into audience tracking interactions
We can still look into having possible interactive mini installations
With these notes we set out to create a new concept that tries to encapsulate all of these ideas and hope to present it in next weeks meeting
